Point clouds and other reality-capture data are only as useful as the features you can pull out of them, and that extraction step is often the bottleneck between data collection and a finished deliverable. AI-assisted extraction tools are increasingly part of closing that gap, but what does that actually mean for a licensed surveyor's workflow, and where does professional judgment still have to lead?

In this live 60-minute session, the presenters will walk professional surveyors through how AI and machine learning identify and extract features from point clouds and imagery,  including a live demo of the workflow in action. They'll cover how AI-assisted extraction fits into a practical field-to-finish process, how to evaluate the accuracy and limitations of AI-generated data, and how to build QA/QC processes that keep the licensed surveyor firmly in control of the final, stamped work product. The session closes with a dedicated live Q&A.

Seth Gulich - Solutions Consultant, Surveying & Mapping, Mach 9

Max Leung - Head of Solutions Engineering, Mach 9
  • Describe how AI and machine learning identify and extract features from point clouds and other reality-capture data, and identify the surveying tasks and project types where these technologies are applicable for engineering workflows.
  • Map a practical field-to-finish workflow that incorporates AI-assisted extraction, from data collection through professional review and delivery into CAD/GIS systems.
  • Evaluate the accuracy, reliability, and limitations of AI-generated data, including common sources of error and circumstances requiring additional professional review or traditional methods.
  • Establish QA/QC processes for AI-assisted surveying work, including human oversight, output validation, documentation, and the licensed surveyor's responsibility for the final work product.
